Why Hip Hop Doesn’t Sell How It Used To 10 Years Ago?

Lately people have been talking about Hip-Hop records not selling as good as they were 10 years ago. I feel like people don’t go out and buy a $11.99 album because they can sit on their computer and download it for free. When you hear an album today you mostly already heard like 6 or 8 songs(thanks to the internet) and there is an average of 14 songs on the CD. Why would someone waste money buying something they already heard?

10 years ago you heard two or three singles and you got a release date. And went to the store and everything you heard was new material. People recycle tracks from their old mixtapes. Country artist don’t have a problem selling records because they don’t give their music out for free. You don’t see Taylor Swift dropping a mixtape before her album comes out.

The mixtape world is so screwed up today. Everybody wants rap and nobody wants an education. People be putting out mixtapes every week. I bet if I go to livemixtapes.com right now there would be 30+ new mixtapes THIS WEEK! People like Trey Songz and Chris Brown be putting out mixtapes. UGHH WHY DOE?? If you are a singer, you are a singer. Their are NO REASON for you to be rapping. We have more than enough rappers as it is.

I personally think that people degrade their music when they put it out for free. I think that’s them saying “Here you go. This is so basic you can have it for free.” But if you are a new artist trying to get heard you should drop a mixtape. But if you an established artist and have a huge following you should not HAVE TO drop a mixtape. And if you ain’t got no business putting out a mixtape(SOULJA BOY) don’t do it!!

Hip-Hop music doesn’t have any value to it because we make it valueless. Giving out music away for free is us saying you shouldn’t have to pay for this. Even though I put so much energy into this. So the internet is the cause of why hip-hop music is fucked.
